Setting your Fitness Goals 2022
We are here, it’s arrived – the start of 2022! After a year which most would rather forget, we have the opportunity now to create a year filled with achievements.
Resolutions are great, but do you know what is even better? Manageable goals that you can stick to and slowly chip away at through the year rather than setting many praying that at least one of them sticks. We have all been there - busy schedules, ‘’I’ll do it later/tomorrow’’, deadlines, and never-ending to-do lists that simply get in the way.
Number 1 - Set a SMART goal!
The biggest failure in New Year resolutions is either making them too broad or too vague, for example, ‘’get fitter’’. Instead, switch your mindset to an achievable goal, for example – workout 2-3 times a week and hold yourself accountable by ticking it off on a calendar so you can visually measure your progress all while, yup, you guessed it ‘getting fitter’.
That’s why step one of accomplishing any fitness goal is spending some time upfront making it SMART:
- Specific: Explicit about exactly what you want to achieve.
- Measurable: You can track your progress.
- Achievable: It’s realistic and attainable for you.
- Relevant: It makes sense to work towards right now and is something you care about.
- Time-bound: It has a deadline.
The more targeted the goal, the higher chance that you will complete it and smash it out the park!
Number 2 - Don’t think of the result, instead, understand your why as this will be your motivator.
It’s not the workout we enjoy – well maybe for some, but it the way it makes you feel afterwards, and into the future. Is it so you can become a fitter parent and play with your kids more? Are you planning to run a marathon in the future? Do you want to play football with your friends at the weekend, or do you want to feel confident in your own body – what is your why?
3 things to ask yourself:
- Why is this goal important to me?
- What will happen if I achieve this goal?
- What will happen if I don’t?
Do whatever you need to do to commit to this goal and see it to action.
Number 3 - Workout from home
Not on can gyms be a little daunting and intimidating, they can sometimes be costly and time consuming. By implementing the option to work out at home, you will get used to training – create your own routine and save money. Les Mills + is a fantastic option for all levels of Fitness with incredibly educated trainers who motivate you from the comfort of your living room.
You don’t even need a huge amount of equipment to get started. Just having a few bits of kit such as some weights and a bar, will help you build strength as well as confidence.
Number 4 - Use the weather to your advantage
Take your workout, outdoors! Fresh outdoor air and natural light invigorate and provide more energy for the mind and body. Sunshine provides the vitamin D that we need, you will get a suntan while training and the sun will lift your spirits! Sunlight also enhances energy generation in the muscles and oxidation of the tissues. (Remember your sunscreen though 🔥🥵🌡)
Lastly, celebrate your wins!
No matter how big or small, show up every day. Walk, do a class, enjoy the outdoors, play with your kids, kick a ball in the park – all of these small wins matter and will enhance your Fitness while releasing all the endorphins to keep your mental health in a great place.
Remember, celebrate the fact you are taking the time to prioritise yourself and your health and wellbeing.
