Do you enjoy working out in the morning?

A famous quote by Mark Twain is “If the first thing you do in the morning is to eat the frog, then you can continue your day with the satisfaction of knowing that this is probably the worst thing that will happen to you all day”

So, what does it mean? Well, if morning workouts are not your thing – eat the frog until your early morning energy burst turns into your favourite habit! You will thank yourself later.

Okay, during Winter it is definitely not fun, especially on those colder days when your car is already frosted over, I’m with you…BUT it is worth it.

As I sit here writing this, I have to say I am little biased as I am have been part of the '5am club' for the past few years and I wouldn't look back, but I'm not here to chat about my experience, I am here to chat about Morning workouts and there incredible benefits:

More overall energy through the day – When you work out, oxygen and nutrients travel to your heart and lungs. This improves your cardiovascular system, endurance, and overall stamina.

Say ‘laters’ to those cravings -  Exercising any time of the day actually decreases the hunger hormone ghrelin, even more so when exercising in the morning as One study of the brain activity of 35 women suggested morning exercise made participants less emotionally responsive to photos of food.

Increased Alertness -  Cortisol is a hormone that keeps you awake and alert and it usually reaches its peak around 8am.

Better focus - A 2019 study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that morning exercise improves attention, visual learning, and decision-making.

Happier overall mood - During exercise, your brain makes more endorphins, the “feel-good” neurotransmitters behind a runner’s high. It also doubles as a distraction from anxious thoughts.

Fight off sickness - Finally and this could be the most important of them all especially in recent times. Exercise actually boosts the immune system so even with a short workout, this can lower inflammation and speed up your body’s response to germs. This should be the number 1 reason why you should start the day with a workout!
